This privacy policy explains what personal information Insurance Compared Daily (“we,” “us” or “our”) collects when you use insurancecompareddaily.com, how we use it and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and in plain language. The short version: we collect very little, and we never sell or share your personal information.
Who we are
Insurance Compared Daily is an independent, online-only publication that explains US insurance. We are not an insurer, agent or broker. We do not sell insurance, give quotes or sell leads. You can reach us about privacy at hello@insurancecompareddaily.com.
What information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the site and respond to you.
| What | When | What we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Contact form | When you send us a message | Your name, email address, chosen topic and message |
| Newsletter form | When you subscribe | Your email address and preferred language |
| Emails you send us | When you email us directly | Your email address and whatever you include in your message |
| Technical data | When you visit any page | IP address and request logs processed by our hosting provider, Cloudflare |
| Browser storage | When you change a setting | Your theme choice (icd-theme) and cookie choice (icd-consent), stored only in your browser |
If you use our insurance shopping checklist, a third item, icd-checklist-<language>, remembers which boxes you ticked. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and the checklist’s “Clear checklist” button deletes it.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, policy or claim numbers, health information or payment details.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information as defined by state privacy laws, and we do not use any information to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
How we use your information
We use your information only to:
- Read and reply to messages you send us
- Send the newsletter you asked for, in your chosen language
- Act on corrections, feedback and privacy requests
- Keep the site secure, available and working properly
- Remember your theme and cookie choices on your device
- Meet our legal obligations
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles. We do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (ads targeted based on your activity across different websites). We never pass your details to insurers, agents, brokers or lead buyers.
We use a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf:
- Cloudflare hosts the site. It processes IP addresses and request logs to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks and abuse.
- Our editorial inbox receives messages from the contact form.
- Our email-list provider stores newsletter subscribers’ email addresses and language choices so it can send the newsletter.
These providers may only use the data to provide their services to us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, such as to respond to a valid legal order, or to protect the rights and safety of our readers or the site.
Cookies and browser storage
The site uses two small items of browser storage (three if you use our checklist), kept in your browser’s localStorage:
icd-themeremembers whether you chose light or dark mode.icd-consentremembers your cookie choice.
These are strictly necessary or functional. No analytics run on the site today. If we add privacy-friendly analytics in the future, they will load only after you accept “Analytics” in the cookie banner. See our cookie policy for details.
Global Privacy Control (GPC)
Global Privacy Control is a setting in some browsers and extensions that tells websites you do not want your personal information sold or shared. We honor GPC. When we detect a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for that browser. You do not need to contact us separately.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, state privacy laws give you rights over your personal information. These include the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA) and similar laws in other states. We extend the following rights to all US readers, wherever they live:
- Right to know and access: ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Right to delete: ask us to delete personal information we hold about you.
- Right to correct: ask us to fix information that is wrong.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing: we already do not sell or share, but you can still make this request.
- Right to limit use of sensitive information: we do not collect sensitive personal information for these purposes.
- Right to non-discrimination: we will not treat you differently for using your rights.
Some laws also give you the right to appeal if we decline your request. If we do, we will explain why and how to appeal.
How to make a privacy request
Email hello@insurancecompareddaily.com with the subject line “Privacy request,” or visit our Do Not Sell or Share page. Tell us which right you want to use.
- Verification: we will ask you to confirm you control the email address linked to the information. We only ask for what we need to verify you.
- Authorized agents: someone you authorize can make a request for you. We may ask for signed permission and may ask you to confirm your identity directly.
- Timing: we respond within 45 days, as laws such as the CCPA require. If we need more time, as the law allows, we will tell you why.
Making a request is free.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it:
- Messages are kept as long as needed to respond and follow up, and for our records of corrections and privacy requests.
- Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. After that, we may keep your email address on a “do not email” list so we do not contact you again.
- Hosting logs are kept by Cloudflare under its own retention practices for security and delivery.
- Browser storage stays on your device until you clear it.
How we protect information
The site is served over a secure HTTPS connection. We limit access to messages and subscriber details to the people and providers who need them. No method of sending or storing data is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share.
Children’s privacy
Our site is written for adults shopping for insurance. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
We link to government agencies, regulators and other official sources. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. We will change the “updated” date at the top of this page. If we make a significant change, such as adding analytics, we will explain it on this page before it takes effect.
